Protective Measures Taken Against Spread Of SARS In Asia

BEIJING – MAY 5: Migrant children from Henan province play in a puddle near a garbage site next to their home on May 5, 2003 in northern Beijing, China. Such garbage sites also serve as outdoor toilets for migrants from poor provinces. Due to a lack of education, many people from China’s poor provinces cannot afford to have seperate locations for health and sanitary care, nor can they adhere to the guidelines given out by the health ministry, like wearing protective masks in order to curb the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) crisis. In China, 4,125 probable SARS cases and 197 deaths have been registered. (Photo by Iko Lee/Getty Images)
